In June 2023, the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action in college admissions, sparking mixed reviews. Affirmative Action is when an academic institution considers a student's race while reviewing an application. Its intention is to promote diversity and create fair opportunities. On one hand, it will be more challenging for colleges to have unique student demographics. Additionally, it might affect certain financial aid scholarships targeted towards certain races, and could perhaps now be challenged or taken the wrong way. On the other hand, some Asian American students believed this decision played out in their favor, as race-conscious decisions blocked doors of equal opportunities in the college admissions field. Others were also pleased by the outcome of this case as it could establish a more fair setting for students to not be judged by their heritage. While the opinions on this case differ in a multitude of ways, it is an extremely interesting topic that has unified the Asian community to share their voices.
